I'm really looking forward to going but she thinks something is going to "happen" to her that she will regret. I mean, I guess they call it "Sin City" for a reason but is it really that bad/dangerous? Thanks for the feedback!

Leave her at home. Then her sin will be not going.

Bad things happen to tourists all the time , I know because I work at the Records Bureau for the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department . That being said usually when bad things happen it is because someone is drinking or doing drugs, not paying attention to things around them or people make friends with the wrong people when they come here . There are plenty of people out there who want to victimize you so beware!!! The best advice I could give you is do not give personal information to people you meet , like how much money you have , how long you are here. Keep an eye on your belongings and keep people at a distance so you can see what you are doing, Some people carry knives and will distract you and cut open a backpack or fanny pack while acting like they are giving you directions. As for being afraid that you may do something sin-full you are not going to do anything here that you might not do anywhere else that is a personal thing. If your girl has strong religious beliefs she probably will not like it here there is a lot of T&A everywhere you look and she will be put off by that. Just remember people are Robbed , Raped and found dead in hotel rooms here all the time (Just Like Other Places) so keep your wits about you so to keep the odds in your favor the criminals are looking for the ones not paying attention , the easy targets. Be Safe

I've always gone with other women or on my own. Tell her the sightseeing is loads of fun, and there are lots of fun attractions. I don't know anyone that has run into trouble, other than running out of money. She should remember to keep her eye on her purse, but that's about it. Vegas feels more like an amusement park than a big city, and it's just about as safe. Have her spend some time learning about it at the sites below: she'll look forward to it if she finds out what she can do there.

In general, it's not anything close to bad or dangerous. I mean the nice casinos are NICE properties. Like being at a 4 and 5 star hotel. There's surveillance cameras everywhere on the casino floor, and being outside on the strip (south end like from TI down to Mandalay Bay) is very safe.

If your GF has problems where she gets out of control, like excessive drinking, or a gambling problem (not accusing, just hypothetically) then yeah, bad things could happen.

In general, those are things that people bring on themselves, not that "happen" to them by some outside influence (like crime or something like that).

With her BF (you) there, it's a lot different than if she was there by herself or with a group of her friends. But you guys are gonna be there together, right? Then it's no big deal, just don't go off and get married on a whim. (Hey, I got married in Vegas, best thing that ever happened to me, and no, it wasn't on a whim).

Imagine being there by yourself or with a bunch of your pals, see, that is where stuff can happen that people might regret later...

Don't get me wrong, it is called "Sin City". But you have to go out looking for the "Sin". It generally doesn't come looking for you.

Anyway, I hope you guys go and have lots of fun.

Only if you go looking for the bad/dangerous stuff, just like any other big city. Stick to the fancy Strip hotels (I love the Mandalay Bay best) and it's fine. There are a lot of "safe" things she can do there. You aren't forced into sin simply for stepping foot onto Las Vegas soil (sand, actually).

If you stay on the Strip, it's not "dangerous" at all. North Las Vegas is seedy, but nobody goes there any way. Downtown is a mixed-bag, but if you stay on the main drag (Fremont Street)...it's no problem.

Las Vegas hotels have the largest private security force in the world to protect their guests. The city also has a much larger police department than it actually needs because it wants to make tourists feel safe.

As for "bad" (as in you find Vegas morally objectionable), if you didn't want to see gambling, smoking, over-eating, drinking, scantily clad female dancers, and gay guys with white tigers -- I doubt you would've chosen to go to Las Vegas in the first place.

Vegas can be as innocent or as sinful as you make it; it's totally up to you two. If you're on the Strip, or even on Fremont, you'll literally see ages 8 to 80 wandering around any given day or night. If you go during the week, it's usually not as busy so she might not be so overwhelmed. Even if she's not into gambling and clubbing, there's still a lot to see & do--and she'll even be able to tell her parents about it afterwards. Have her check out sites like vegas.com--they have a lot of info for Vegas virgins. Enjoy!

Not sure exactly what she is afraid of might "happen". If she is afraid of crime, then do not be. As others have mentioned, the Strip is one of the safest places. Las Vegas thrives on tourism, and they are not going to take undue risks in letting criminal acts detour people from coming and dumping their money. As others have said, stay where the people and lights are and you will be alright.

Now, if her worries are moral in nature, then that is a different animal. You will see more potential debauchery than other vacation sites, but it is still reined in. There is just about anything you might like, but it is sort of like a buffet in a low-lit place. You dont have to be exposed to anything more than you like, and you certainly don't have to partake of any dish that doesn't suit you.

It's slightly more dangerous than Disneyland, just because there are cars on the road. Inside the casinos NOTHING gets out of hand with all the security, and outside on the Strip, the police keep it very safe. What the heck kind of movies has your gf been watching? That's pretty funny.

The strip is safe but the city of Vegas has the biggest gang of thieves. Don't leave from the strip and you will be ok...

The Vegas strip is very safe. I went with two of my girlfriends and never ran into any trouble.
