Don't listen to jokers who tell you to go with one brand over another. You are buying a processor, not a name. Compare the performance of the individual chips and get the one that gives you the best performance for the price. That said, Core 2 Duo is generally the best right now.
Core 2 Duo > Core Duo > Turion 64 X2 > Turion 64 = Pentium M > Mobile Sempron > Celeron M
That is from both a performance and power efficiency perspective.

in my personal experience, Intel is more durable than AMD and AMD is more powerful than Intel (in a few ways.) AMD can pump out the juice for what you need while Intel can pump out juice but not over-work itself like a lot of past AMD. Although, I haven't tried many AMD processors as of late.
Intel Celeron is good for word processing and maybe watching a few videos. Pentium processors are good for high performance software. AMD does cost less than Intel, so that's a big plus if you're on a budget. Intel is notorious for making expensive processors.
So really, it depends on: Budget, What you plan to do with this laptop, and how long you plan to use it.
Hope it helps!

unless your a technical expert who likes to blow about whats inside your computer, it doesn't matter as long as it works and is relatively fast. what ever you choose it will be superseded next week anyway. Which ever one you choose in the end it will be compatible with whatever other components that are in the computer.
there are a lot of good deals out there depending on what you want the laptop for. Don't be blinded by all the hype and try and keep away from visa.

I find that both Intel and AMD processors have their good points. If you're wanting to anything more complicated than word processing or spreadsheets though, I do recommend that you stay away from Intel Celeron processors. They don't hold up well to multitasking.
