An outhouse, yeah those are bad. Especially the ones with two seats (a two-holer). Why would you want to go to the potty with someone else??? My grandparents had one, but luckily it was only a one-holer. I didnt like using it, but they lived waaaaaaaay out in the sticks, and there was no other option except for "use that bush over there." Ahhhhhh..... Childhood memories.

many times in Portugal,Spain,Marocco,Canada,Oregon, South Africa and Mexico

the worst one was the Mexican corral ,this is just a floor with a fence around it
you do it on the floor ,and you notice an eye observing you, when you leave ,the pig ,that has been patiently waiting shoots in and cleans the floor

the second worse one was the Indigenous Americans (Mazatecas)in Mexico ,they have just a hole in the floor the size of a pipe and it takes all your strength and concentration to remain balanced and aim the stuff into the hole

then follows the dry compost toilet that a lot of Nature lovers have this is a normal toilet but with a seperate container for the urine and you have to make sure that the correct body parts are over the corect recepticles
,and they all tend to smell

the normal outhouse is fine if the drop is deep enough and if people throw sand or leaves on top after ,to cover the smell, and then this is as good as a normal water toilet.

in Thailand people have organic toilets by the side of the road ,beautifully painted and with sweet smelling herbs and flowers ,they invite passers by to use the toilet, because they want to collect the excrement to make compost ,these are probably the best outhouses in the world

the Azteccas collected the material from the public toilets on the bridges leading into the city,to use on their chinampas ,mixed with the rich mud of the lake ,this kind of edge effect agriculture fuctions after more than 800 years ,a perfect example of harmony between human waste and food, and these toilets are also reputed to have been clean

in Portugal there are still toilets Moorish or Algarvian style ,which are built high up(about 1,5 meters) with a staircase leading up to it , and one dumps right into the pigs food trough.
these also do not smell

Yeah I have too. Outhouses, lol. My grand-dad used to take me & my cousin camping and fishing at lock 17 on the Warrior River in Tuscaloosa Co., AL. There was a bright red one a couple of hundred yards away from the boat launch up in the woods. He had a 24' motorhome with a BA/SHWR combo but He would'nt let us use it because there were no dumping stations between there and the house, so we had to pee on trees, bathe in the river, and crap in that hot, smelly, dump of a shack built over a hole in the ground! Thanks, good times & good memories.[except for the having to crap part!]

I use porta-potties everyday at work because I am out at construction sites a lot. I've also used several types of outhouses and even a toilet lid on a 5 gallon bucket. Bushes work well too.

Are you talking about a porta potty 'cuz I've used plenty of those!! Also when I was deployed to Laos we were working in the jungle every day and made a ramshackle "outhouse". It sucked because you had to use lye in the hole every time you used it and with all the bugs out there...I'd always wind up with ants in my pants!! Those little buggers hurt when they'd be crawling down your leg biting all the way down!!

When I was young, my grandparents had outdoor toilets. We also moved to an house once that had an outdoor toilet. So, I've used my share of them. I've also used a port a potty. Those things are just plain nasty. If I had to choose, I would choose the outdoor toilet. When you have to go, you have to go, but if I can possibly help it, I will hold it until I can get to a bathroom.

I had to use them as a child. Some of my relatives did not have indoor plumbing. We had to bathe outside in a huge wooden tub or something that the farm animals drank out of I think. I hated that. I was scared of spiders in the outhouse and would not go to the bathroom at night.

I used one a lot growing up. Grandparents had one. I never thought much about it then. Now, I can't stand the thought of going in one. Even a porta-potty gives me the creeps!
