A political science major is a good generalist degree to start off with. Pol Sci degrees give access to many types of careers, depending on what your interests are. Here are just some of the most obvious suggestions:

Foreign Service: travel around the world, work in the realm of international relations, get paid sufficiently to live a comfortable life, job security, tax free when on post overseas.

International Civil Service: work for an International Government Organization (IGO) like the UN or NATO on topics you're interested in.

In both cases, the starting salary may be slightly lower than your salary range, but not by much, and career advancement is fairly quick, and there are many perks, like travel.

However, it may be quite hard to enter those careers with only an undergraduate degree. To enter the Foreign Service, you must pass a competitive exam that is quite tough; many international organizations also have competitive exams and require a graduate degree. Also, political science is a very generic degree, and many employers find that it lacks specialization. I would thus suggest you pursue a graduate degree to specialize in a topic.

If income is your main concern, I would recommend pursuing an MBA or other economics and finance-oriented Masters. A combination of Pol Sci undergrad and finance-related grad degree is very attractive to investment firms and other financial recruiters.

I graduated in 1985 w a Political Science degree. I spent the next 20 years owning & building an insurance agency, earning about $85K per year. I sold it in 05 for an annual payment of $31K for the next 20 years.

Now I've just started a second career as a stockbroker/financial advisor ($65K plus bonus)

Political Science is a good degree for doing all kinds of careers!!
