how do I get back my net connection after reprograming it?

my comp. crashed so i got everything erased so i can start fresh,but i can't get back my connection. I have everything else back but that. I can get the net with my laptop but not my desktop.

you have Internet access, but not your desktop
can you see the network icon in the taskbar?

if not, go to my network place, Click on the "view network connections" --> see if the ( Local Area Connection ) blue so its connected ( If not check the cable then try the net )

double click on "Local Area Connection" --> properties
check the "show icon in..." to be shown in the taskbar

click on Internet protocol -->check the "Use the following IP address"

then put your network gateway ip address

if you don't know it, get it from your laptop.

so on your laptop:

go to my network place, click on "view network connections" --> double click on "Local Area Connection" --> chose Support label (on top) --> write down the IP address, Subnet mask, Default Gateway.
o back to your desktop computer
fill the :
** IP address ( same laptop numbers, but the last number is diffrent )
ie.
if laptop is:
192.168.1.3

your desktop will be:
192.168.1.4

** submak is the same
** gateway is the same

done

restart if needed
