Don't be afraid of using a tampon. Some people never go back to pads because they find them so much more comfortable, and even if you don't it at least means you can go swimming etc or go out in your best clothes without any problems.

It's about practice and being relaxed. If your muscles are tense then it is harder to insert a tampon. Read the instructions in the packet a few times and it helps to use a mirror.

The first time it could hurt because your hymen which is a thin layer of skin over your vagina may not be broken, but it can be broken when horse back riding, cycling or anything so you cannot always tell.

The tampon will never get lost and is held in tightly by the muscles in your vagina. The best sort to use for a beginner are tampons with applicators it makes it much easier to insert.

The first couple of times it may feel uncomfortable, this means you probably haven't inserted it in far enough or correctly. When you cannot feel it it is in correctly.

Good luck! You will find them great to use!

As long as you have your period, you can use a tampon.
There's absolutely no reason to be afraid of a tampon. It can't harm you in any way. It can't get stuck or lost inside you. That's impossible.

What I really recommend you do is talk to your mom or another female relative about it, and hopefully they will explain how your body works and how it's impossible for a tampon to get lost.

Here are some great websites for you to check out, they have lots of info on periods and tampons and stuff:

http://www.youngwomenshealth.org/tampon.html
http://www.obtampons.com/index_us.shtml

At the Playtex site, you can even have them send you a free tampon sample! My favorite kind is Playtex, though I haven't tried the sport ones yet. I agree with the others, use the ones with the plastic applicators, they're the best!

It wont get lost, there is no where for it to go!!! apart from OUT. It expands to fit you when its inside, and when you need to take it out u just pull the lil string carefully, make sure you buy one that suits your flow you may be heavy so ull need "super" its all clear on the box, if not then ask your mum or someone in the shop, i would suggest using a panty liner or pad with wings for your first try, just so that you are not worried about leaking, when you are confident, don't use the pads anymore!! Change it every 4-8 hours, or when u need, but dont sleep in them!!

You should ask your mom before you use a tampon Or a big sister. I think a least 14 Because you need to know that changing them often is important for sanitary reasons. They can't get lost but they sometimes do get stuck . If yiu can't remove it on your own ask someone to take you to a Dr or an ER they see this kind of thing all the time.

It doesnt really matter what age you are. It may take a few tries to do it right but you will. It cannot get lost or get stuck because thereis nowhere for it to go. make sure you leave the string hanging out. they have instructions in the box to help make it easier your first time. i suggest using ob since you have never done it before. thats what i used the first time i had my period.

You won't lose it and it won't get stuck...let's start there. I recommend playtex with a plastic applicator, they are the easiest to insert in my opinion. In order to put your mind at ease I would recommend that you insert one and then pull it right back out. Then you can get used to the feeling and see how comfortable it is and how the string works and all those things. I would start with regular one as they are thinner and easier to insert.

Good luck, it is a step of faith, but once I started using them, I never looked back. Tampons rock.

dont worry, it wont get 'lost', i'd say 15 is an ok age, it does help more than a pad n if u dont pee alot during the day then theyre great. but, dont feeled pressured 2 wear1, it turns out alot of other girls i kno STILL think its wierd because they dont want anything going N THERE until theyre ready, its not like it takes away ur virginity or anything yet it still makes sum ppl feel akward. (btw 1s w/plastic applicaters work best)

I will never get lost or stuck. Buy the ones with pearl applicator for easier insert, Tampax Pearl are pretty good. I would start using tampons at 13.
