Keeping an earing in sounds simple but at some point you're going to take it out and for some people the hole closes up very quickly. I got my ears pierced first as a baby and when I was about 16 I got two additional holes and I kept the earings in for about two weeks before taking them out and as soon as I did the holes closed up. I tried agin about a year later and the same thing happened. I just cut my losses and continued to use one hole. For some people the holes close very quickly and you are probably one of them. Unless you want to keep the same earing in your ear for the the next couple of months without ever taking it out (which is unsanitary by the way) there may be nothing you can do about this. Don't keep trying to re-pierce the hole yourself though because it can cause an infection and a knott in your ear lobe.

Keep the earring you used to get your ears pierced on for at least 6 months. Never take them off until then, or your holes will close. For the first couple of weeks, twist the earrings no and then to prevent your skin from sticking to the earring as the hole is healing and forming. Even after 6th months, make sure you ear earrings now and then to prevent closing. Last but not least, don't forget to sterilize each earring you put on to prevent infection!!

Yes, like they said, keep the earring in. And clean around it with rubbing alcohol a couple times a day, and move it around every so often to stop it from attaching to the earring as it heals (then if you tried to move the earring after it would rip the healed part open again). It may take months or years to completly heal with the hole; I've had mine pierced for 3 years now and still, if I take my earrings out for a while and try to put them back in it's difficult.

You have to keep the same earring in it 24/7 for the first 6 weeks. After that, you still need an earring in it 24/7, but you can change them out.
Also, to avoid infection, apply rubbing alcohol to it a couple of times a day. This will save you a lot of trouble, because infection is a pain in the neck.

Purchase a stud, with a fairly large post. Once your ear is peirced and after inserting the stud, be sure to clean the piercing (w/rubbing alcohol) on a daily basis. Also, be sure to turn the post every day as well, otherwise your skin will grow onto the post and be very painful to remove.
BTW: leave the post in for 6-8 weeks. :)

You keep an earring in it and clean it twice a day with ear care solution or witch hazel, turning it completely around each time you clean it. after 4-6 weeks, you can change your earring(s) and after 6-9 months, you should be able to leave earring(s) out completely for days or even weeks with no problem.

Keep the earring in and turn it every day to make sure the ear doesn't start to heal to it.

There is a minimum time that an earing always has to be in the ear. Once that time has expired you can take it out and change it whenever you want. When you have it in at the beginning you have to rotate it constantly.
