Be a volunteer for a hospital, soup kitchen, or even at the local animal shelter. You always touch someone else and you end up feeling good about what you are doing.

Don't think so big. Everyone wants to change the world, but no one can. It's a long and painfully slow process.
The way you say you want to be noticed for doing good kind of indicates that you really don't care about doing good for the sake of good, you just want attention or fame or something.
I'd recommend just doing things to help out the people in your life. People are suffering all around you, you don't have to go to a third world country to find loneliness or pain or a person in need of help. Remember that.

I'd say what you want is kind of contradictory...
If you wanted to change the world, of course its gonna be "big."
What I think you're saying is much similar to "wanting the shiniest coat of skin, but not stand out" (i think that sounds kind of vague and irrelevant, but you may get my point)
In my opinion, it may be hard (or impossible) to try to make a revolution, being that YOU are only ONE person. Something to keep in mind when attempting to achieve that goal is that everyone of every party will accept that idea as a change for the greater good. But hey, try baby steps.

Don't do good work for the sake of getting "noticed". Do it for the satisfaction that it brings.
