Only if you're famous or very rich. Think about it this way: do you know of any average Joe who actually made a difference? No you do not. If you want to change the world, the best you can do is to hang around influential people and try to influence them to change the world. Also, try to get rich and/or famous somehow so you can change it yourself.

it doesn't matter who notices the good deed - its about you knowing that you are proud of what you did. you could go through your clothes and find a bunch of quality stuff to donate, be a big brother/big sister, recycle, adopt a dog or cat, take a younger sibling/niece/etc to a game or show, donate money to a charity/scholarship program/school, volunteer with a help line/shelter/parks improvement/ art school, plant a tree, stop smoking, always drive sober, open the door for strangers and smile, tip your waitress well, bring in donuts for work, throw a friend a surprise party, give someone a hug, basically do anything that you are interested in, can help with, want to improve, or think someone else needs. Do what you can. Try something. It's better to try to do something and not know if it for sure is making a difference, than to go to bed knowing for sure that you could have done more. And have fun! It's a great thing to want to do.

Adopt an overseas kid in a third world country. For less then a few dollars a month, you can save a life. You could adopt a dog from the dog pound and save its life. You could look around your neighborhood and find something that is dangerous and got to City Hall to talk about it. You get time to talk at all City Halls in the USA. It is timed but they have to hear you. It is easy to find something that will change the world. Every life is is important and all you have to do is affect one life and the ripples from that touch many.

Have you made the decision to leave your community? I think traveling the world and simply learning as you go will change the view you may have at present. The world will change you and give you a view you may not have otherwise seen had you not traveled outside the confines and security of community living.

You can make a difference in the world by helping others. It shouldn't be about you, but about God. Take care of the poor, missionaries, or do something that will get the newspapers to pay attention.

The greatest difference you can make is to be kind to everyone you meet. It builds community and makes people feel like someone cares. This actually prevents violence and will bring more kindness to your life. It seems small but its a big deal!

How about being captured in Iraq? And then being released from the Army and being awarded a bronze star and getting a book published about you event in Iraq, and then you can also deny that you were raped there while being captured. It's a start
