Annuals are planted at the beginning of the season, grow and bloom and die at the end of fall. Some examples are Marigolds, Zinnias, Petunias, and Pansies.
Perennials are planted in the beginning of the season, grow and maybe will bloom the first season...they will over winter and come back out in Spring and will be bigger and have some blooms...and will come back the third season bigger and more beautiful than before. Some examples are Daisies, Hollyhocks, Lilies and Crocus.
There are also plants called bi-annuals that grow and bloom the first year as the annuals do but then in the fall will drop their seeds and bloom again the following Spring/Summer...one example of this is Morning Glories.
