I personally think hockey requires more toughness, which I think is the key component of "manliness." Both sports require an immense amount of stamina and strength. What separates hockey is the constant beating and hitting going on. Basketball can be physical, but hockey allows more hitting and pounding. Sure, the NHL has cut down on the brutality of it, but hockey still involves more brutality than the NBA. When there are punches thrown in the NBA, it's headline news. When punches are thrown in the NHL, there's a penalty and that's it. So, hockey REQUIRES more toughness. I'm not saying all the players are tougher than all the NBA players, but based on toughness/manliness, you have to have more guts in the NHL. Both are great sports with intense game play, but on "manliness" alone, the NHL comes out on top.
If you want to know which is better, it's ALL a matter of opinion. I live in Pittsburgh, so of course, I like hockey more. Both sports demand a huge amount of skill and talent, I don't think most people even understand the amount of finesse, stamina, and hand-eye coordination NHL players must have.

Basketball s better than playing hockey coz team work is good whether you win or not. You don't need to bump someone just to have a goal. you have to shoot the ball without the cost of other players. In hockey, physical contact is badly needed to win while basketball uses brain power.

i dont know about manly because all male dominated sports are testosterone driven. but basketball is better overall. IMO a lot more talent and skills go into it.
oh and you are asking this in the basketball section so my guess is most if not all the answers here will say basketball.

I am from Detroit which is known as Hockeytown USA, and I'm a huge Wings fan and love hockey, but ever since Dumars took over as Pistons GM and made them into the team they r now, I've been a much bigger Pistons fan which has gotten me more into the NBA, especially since Pistons have a solid steady team with 5 solid starters who would be all stars on most teams and they play BBall the way it's suppose to be played as a team and have no selfish individual players who just want to score, they play to win, and I've seen wings be an elite contender for 15 years, and rest of the Detroit teams have sucked since then, so now finally I have a new elite team to watch in Pistons and now Tigers r startin to come round and may be contenders for years to come but for now still sticking with the Pistons and I like watching bball over hockey for now

Hockey is better, basketball doesn't take that much to play. Just think about it. What is harder to do for the first time? Skate on Ice, keep your balance and shoot a puck or run around and shoot a ball into a hoop.

hockey requires more courage to get on the rink and get pushed around by the oppenent. Basketball is just shooting. I hate hockey though.
