Life is scientific. You're either dead or alive.
Living is a standard in life. People define and set that standard as they wish.

I think that it changes once we realize and appreciate the fact that we are living. I'd like to share a poem with you that was written by a young girl with terminal cancer.
"Have you ever watched kids on a merry go round? Or listened to rain slapping on the ground? Or gazed at the sun into the fading night? You better slow down. Don't dance so fast. Time is short. The music won't last.
Do you run through each day on the fly?
When you ask, "How are you?"
Do you hear the reply?
When the day is done you you lie in your bed with the next hundred chores running through your head?
Better slow down.
Dont dance so fast.
Time is short.
The music wont last
Ever told your child we'll do it tomorrow, and in your haste not see his sorrow? Ever lost touch, let a good friendship die cause you never had time to call and say hi? You'd better slow down dont dance so fast. Time is short the music wont last.
When you run so fast to get somewhere you miss half the fun of getting there.
When you worry and hurry through your day, Its like an unopened gift...thrown away.
Life is not a race, do take it slower, hear the music before the song is over.
...I think this little girl found the difference between having a life and actually living.

There are two stage of animate existence. Life is the stage in which there is a pre-determined time to either take it to the next level by conception or perish. In life there is no chance for reproduction because there are no organs by which this can happen. Living is the stage of organismic existence in which we have all the organs in place and functioning so that we can extract from the earth what we need to "live" ie air, food, water, sunshine, and nutrients. In living there is a potential for reproduction because we have organs by which we can now accomplish this. Life comes before conception and living comes after birth. The time we spend in the womb is spent developing the organs we will later need to live outside the womb as a living organism.

Life is the state of existence in which something or someone is living.
To "live" is to have life.
Without life, there's no "living".
Now, on the other hand, you can have life but not be able to make a living, in which case the difference between life and living can be measured by your quality of life.
The quality of life refers to the aesthetics that life has to offer and one's ability to provide these luxuries.

Life would be a noun such as life insurance, you don't hear of living insurance.
Living a verb or "action" word, as in he is living on the edge.
I know somewhat lame, but that is the first thing that came to mind.

You have life at the time you were concieved. Living takes place when you do something to make life worthwhile. Finding love and doing something to make your life worthwhile. Serving God and living each day as he would want you to.

life is what you're given, living is what you do with it. As far as physically, though, i would say that the begining of life and living are the same, and they start at conception. Peace out!
