Yes, I believe they do. Just be glad this isn't like in the 1800's, when political parties were responsible for counting ballots. Tell me, how reliable is THAT? Not only that, but people found ways of registering people who already died in order to vote more than once... the process of registering wasn't overseen very well. However, now the Australian ballot is used in all 50 states and registering to vote has been made more difficult in order to eliminate fraud. Although this has a negative impact on our voter turn out, the results are more accurate. So basically yes, I do think they do count all the votes for president.

Nowadays we don't have strong political machines, either. Political machines use to "pay" people for their vote--like give them government jobs in return, or do something in their favor. This is also back in the 19th century, when Tammany Hall in NYC was a major political machine force. The political corruption was absolutely horrible. That's a good example of money running the nation. But now there are laws were only $12 million can be used in campaigning per presidential candidate. Although there are loop holes, it does affect the outcome slightly when it comes to advertising.

Oh yeah, and to the girl who says the electoral college makes it so it doesn't matter, it's our duty as citizens of the United States to vote. Don't let that stop you. The electoral college was created because the Founding Fathers didn't want the US to be a democracy... they wanted it to be a republic. Democracy to them meant "mob rule", and they knew that sometimes what the general public wants isn't what's always best for the country. Hence, the electoral college was created.

But basically, the US's voter turn out is pathetic compared to other countries' voter turnouts. Don't be another statistic and vote!

I think they might count the votes for president...but I don't think anyone bothers to actually care. Besides, the Electoral College carries all the weight.

It doesn't matter what the US as a society thinks about who should be the next president, because ultimately, it's not up to us.

Don't believe me? Look at our president. He was twice nominated and won the presidential vote whilst losing the popular vote. He's the only president ever to do so.

And the people who vote are senior citizens, lawyers, and businessmen. Everyone else just doesn't care.

Doesn't make it right, but it's the truth.
