My mollys have recently had fry, and I was wondering. How long does it take for the fry to develop enough so that the other fish will not eat them? I currently have the fry in a tank all their own, and all the adult fish in another. Is this alright?

It's best that you have them all separated. Otherwise, your fry would be fast food. It can take a long time for the little ones to grow to sufficient size not to be eaten. I've got some guppies that are a month old and I still need a magnifying glass to look at the little buggers.

Give it until they look twice as big as what you think your fish could fit in their mouths.

Good luck.

Hi Shelly,

Congrats on the fry! With proper feedings and plenty of water changes you can exect you fry to be large enough to be safe from fish the size of the parents in 5-6 weeks.

Its going to depend on what your feeding, how often your feeding and how often you do partial water changes. First off get a baby fish food made for live bearers. it will be a fine powdery flake that is formulated to grow your fish. it is NOT crushed up big fish flakes. second feed them 5-6 times a day.they don't have stomachs like the big fish and cant eat much but they can eat often. third ,partial water changes often (every second or third day) to take care of the large amount of 'baby waste' .
follow these suggestions and you may be breeding your babies in two months good luck!
