When the 2012 Olympics were first muted, we were told it would cost £3 billion. Now we are told it will cost over £ 5 billkion. What will it really cost by 2012, £ 15 to 20 billion? Meanwhile the UK as a whole is seening Lottery and tax payers money ploughed into something that is really all about advertising London. It has as much relevance to the rest of the UK as the Dome, the National Library or the New Wembley. Surely it is time to stop pouring good money after bad and say we don`t want these games, give them to someone else?

Timothy have you ever been out in the provinces. We are sick of the fact that every National thing for Britain is based in London. You foist all the garbage like the Poll Tax and the mess like the PPP programme for the Skye Bridge on Scotland first, but take all the good things for London. Why couldn`t the Olympics have gone to Birmingham or Belfast or Cardiff, etc? When you lot down in London start taking an interest in the good of the rest of the country then the rest of the country will take an interest in you. The only time Blair and Cameron come visiting in Scotland is when there are votes to be won, otherwise nothing.
Fortunately I am Scottish, so this mess in London isn`t taking place in my country. I most certainly won`t be watching it on telly and as with London, in general, and the Dome, it will be marked on my grave as , `Places he never visited`.

The thing about Labour is that, the Olympics are being heralded and promoted as a wonderful thing for the British economy. When, in fact, they will only benefit the South-East and London for a few weeks and months afterwards, leaving behind them a trail of debt, shoddy buildings and un-used sports facilities.

So, under the banner of this "National Event" they are fleecing the already overburdened British tax-payer with yet more cash demands and stripping the countries National Lottery good causes fund for their own ends.

They should be reminded that under the Olympic rules, it is CITIES, not Countries that bid and get chosen to host the games. So, London should foot the bill, not the Auchtermuchtie Nature Reserve, or any other association run by the Lotto or government grants.

I say we should have let the Dome (another of "New Labour's (Old Tories) white elephants along with the new "National Stadium" again in London) become the 1st Super Casino and it should have been for the sole purpose of funding the games. Then we'd see how many people really want the Olympic shambles in London.

Firstly, I don't live in London, have only been to London once in my life, and so have no vested interest in supporting London.

However, why don't you actually get your facts right? Denis Oswald, the Australian member of the International Olympic Committee appointed to oversee London's progress says, "London 2012 has an ambitious and visionary project and has been able to keep up the momentum of its work since winning the bid...delivering on all its key milestones to date."

London 2012 will bring benefits to the whole of the UK, and the insinuation of your question, and the comments of some of the people answering it, only go to serve why we have become such a sad, pathetic country full of racist whingers.

Get a life, support London 2012, volunteer to help, and you will see the greatest Olympic games ever.

Nobody wants it except this Government and London.

Let them keep it and pay for it. As you say nobody will benefit in any other part of the country except London, which will have another arena which nobody else except those in the South east will be able to get to - or want to get to!!! I stopped playing the lottery as thre money no longer goes to GOOD Causes but those endorsed by the overnment or to sponsored immigrant benefits.

I wish you were right mate. This week, the cost of the games went up to, "at least £9bn."

Other countries who did not get the games must be sighing in relief, don't you think?
