You described it. That's about the only way.
I just go swimming in deep water and flail my shorts to wash away the sand.

We went to a beach in Ft. Lauderdale one day. The beach is on the EAST side of the road, a big park with a LOT of overhead trees is on the other side. They had 6 outdoor showers. At 4 of the showers women, teen girls, and young girls, thought nothing of taking off their bathing suits and showering, to get rid of the beach sand. It just floored my son, who was 9 at the time. Even walking to our car, we passed by cars where women and girls were changing out of their swimsuits into clothing, beside the cars! No one tried any form of modesty. They would look, smile, say hello, etc. as we went by. When we got in the car, he looked very seriously at me and said; "never! take me this beach again."
We never went back.

Ha, the last time I was at Daytona they had those water squirt things that come up from the sidewalk in a pattern and people were standing over them all open and honest. My son was 4 and I did that with him. I wanted to myself but just couldn't bring myself to clean out my own who ha in public.

Baby powder works best for taking sand out of the booty and off the feet.

if there are no public showers - take a couple gallons of water
and keep them in your trunk -
let the nieces and nephews use their own hands - you pour

I just take off their suit, wrap a towel around them, rinse it out, have them rinse off, and put the suit back on. It's a lot of trouble, but better than their skin getting irritated and sore.

Like rinse it real good. Make sure that every inch is washed and cleaned. Or like scrub it with a sponge, brush(not the one for hair).

Just wait for it to dry a bit, then simply brush it out-- much less embarrassing for the kids!
