Hey it's what people do. Is there a good reason for it? Perhaps not being able to face reality. Of course my religious friends say that my beliefs are irrational. We all have beliefs, and from someone else's perspective they are irrational. I believe what I believe, you think I'm the anti-christ. You believe what you believe, and I think you're a nut bucket.
In the grand scheme of things it doesn't really matter if we can agree to disagree and still be friends.

Often there is no other choice if you are referring to 3rd world and other similarly depicted countries. Often there is a unfair disbursement of wealth and power which leads to desperation. Extreme poverty and extreme wealth, need. Ignorance and lack of information isn't really the case as much as the seems to be no other way. I agree with you though on the fear factor, I mean look at how much more power the US government has over it's people now that it is ruling with fear....
