I took off to Ocala Florida from Greenville South Carolina to go camping with my Dog for a week,I had stayed helping mother for nine months till she died of cancer. had a hole in my roof when I moved back into My Home I had PAID OFF. I was working on it as it started to leak in I had torn out the rotted parts of the roof,My car broke down in Gainesville, over heated.ruined the engine, walked door to door painting numbers on curbs to get & to get the car fixed.or buy another one.I had painted about 75.000 of them in the Upstate, of S.C.got hit by a van, hit and run,In hospital for a long while, my bother called ,I went by your house to check on it, It wasn't there, they had sent me a letter for me to come to court about the hole in my roof.but someone took it out of my mailbox out on the street ,a girlfriend was picking up my mail, then when I got out of the hospital.had to Go live in a tent in the woods on the side of the road, I was going camping anyway. had all the supplies. for a long time.months. I camped there, disabled.could hardly walk.got sick, lung infection.thought I was going to die.trying to get my car fixed.but it turned out to be ruined.I would have come back to Greenville but I couldnt get a ride and I wouldnt leave my dog, which of course is not thinking right.,But I am proud and want take help.I have saved some money after 4 years now and hope to get my book printed, as I have discovered the cause and cure for osteoarhtritis.I told most everyone at their door in the Upstate when I painted there number on the curb or driveway the simple cure for osteoarhritis. Its my mission in life.Peace. God bless you now.I now stop and give money to every older homeless person I see.I sure do miss my home, my possesions, my yard my plants and trees..my Greenville South Carolina.I just cant believe some times that they actually torn down my home like that .& put a lein on my lot for the cost of tearing it down and taking everything i owned to the dump.

Here in the USA, the gov't doesn't prevent this from happening. Don't know about other countries.
Here in the USA, most people are only a paycheck away from becomming homeless. Rents and utilities eat up a big piece of the average working person's paycheck, and many people can lose their jobs without warning.
Also, many people become homeless because of domestic abuse. They leave an abusive spouse or parent, and they have no where else to go but to the streets.
Many long term homeless people suffer from mental illness, and are unable to care for the various entanglements in keeping a home, paying rent, keeping a job or other income source, keeping utilities paid, etc. In addition, many landlords require references from previous landlords, and won't rent to people who have a past history of homelessness.
Whenever I see a homeless person I think, there but for the grace of God go I. And if I can do a little something to ease their suffering, I do so. As Jesus said, "whatsoever you do to the least of these, you do unto me". Jesus, btw, "had nowhere to lay his head".

How can the government prevent it? People get messed up on drugs, lose their jobs, lose their homes, lose their families. Many people don't know how to help themselves once they get so far down. Supposedly, everyone is three paychecks away from being homeless. I think I heard that on Oprah.
