I mean everyone has history to be proud of no matter what race you are. Right?

Okay so I just read all of these comments and it seems to be a really good question but you seem so naive asking it. um... first off ask yourself what is America? the answer you get might not be the answer you want but let's face it in our world stereotype are what rule you take that away everyone will be like deer waiting in the road to get hit. America is based on Apple pie, Baseball, & Racism without it, it wouldn't be America, Now as far as Black History Month goes Im black and all it is a reminder that we're over archievers (those of us who want to believe and take the time to understand that) that's all Black History month is it's not to be racist but to "pat" us on the back for all our good just like the Mexicans have "Cinco de Mayo" and the Jewish,Chinese, and muslim have there time Black History Month is for the African- Americans.

Sure we could have American history month, but why do that when American History is really just white male history. It barely glimpses over Women's History (hence Women's history month), Black History, and other many cultural histories.

Look, if American history books in schools taught everything in detail, and did not just glimpse over major periods like slavery then perhaps your question could hold more weight. However, no school teaches about how because of slavery, many of this country's companies and wealthy 'old money' were able to get away without paying income taxes or health insurance, etc. Basically, its impossible to write everything that is lacking in American history into one little blurb on Yahoo Answers, but the answer still is that we NEED to have month to recall how pioneers in the various movements, from slavery to segregation helped moved America forward.

perchance its no longer in all probability the shortcoming of delight yet simply by fact there is an african american working for president, simply by appreciation for african american music (rap, hip-hop, r&b) and so on... all of that... black way of life has replace into very intertwined with on the instant's teenagers... sure, we are nonetheless socially segregated yet its our very own determination and there are various exceptions. What are you recognizing with black historic past month? it relatively is not any distinctive now than presidents day and fat tuesday or memorial day, and so on. It has a purpose, there have been black historic past month issues happening - college time-honored we had a fact study to us over the intercom and so on.

Well, Black History Month is celebrating all the achievements of the African American ppl. It's not really racist; they deserve a month.

supposedly "it celebrates their culture" but in that case black people come from all over, so dont they all have different cultures just like White people? I think its one more thing that causes racism rather than brings us all together!
