My husband and I are trying to conceive a girl this month. I purchased the basal thermometer which is a method my mother used to have me (and other family membrers). Does anyone know what temp my body should be at to raise my chances of conceiving a girl? Only serious answers only please. Nothing funny about this. Thank you!

Charting your fertility signs is the best way to know when you are ovulating and timing your intercourse a couple-3 days before ovulation is what is believed to increase the chances of conceiving a girl.

Charting your basal body temp is a great way to CONFIRM ovulation, predict your next period or suggest pregnancy. It's not especially helpful in predicting ovulation. Your bbt is also unique to you. To my knowledge, there is no ideal temp (other than the normal range) for conception, though low temps after ovulation can indicate low progesterone levels.

For that, you need to chart your cervical fluid too.

I highly recommend the following resources: Fertilityfriend.com (software for free and for purchase, online charting tutorial). Ovusoft.com (charting software for purchase and discussion groups), Couple-to-Couple League (not sure of the website). The books: Taking Charge of Your Fertility (assoc w/ ovusoft) and Garden of Fertility. TCOYF at least should be available at the library.

The closer you conceive to the time of ovulation the higher your chances of having a girl.

Taking your temp can only tell when you have ovulated not if you are about to, therefore the best thing to do is to chart your temp for a few months, that way you can try and pin-point when you usually ovulate and then try 2-3 days before you think when you will next ovulate.

96 to 98 degrees taken orally is considered normal before ovulation and 97 to 99 after ovulation.

this is a link for charting your temp.

There will be a raise of 0.4 to 0.6th degree of temperature from your normal temperature if you ovulate. Just before ovulation your temperature will drop and then begin to raise and continue to raise and will be in high if you get pregnant. So, according to shettles method if you are planning for a girl you have to make love in the beginning of your fertile window that is just 3-4 days after your menstruation ends and u have to restrain from sex 24hrs prior to the ovulation( that is when u find ur BBT drop and raise soon next day) and 72hrs after ovulation. Wish u good luck

All I know is that your chances of having a girl are most likely 3 days prior to your ovulation date.....and that you should not try the day of or after you have ovulated.....
Hope this helps
