The plane crashed on February 2, 1959, 8 miles distant from the airport, on the farm property of Albert Juhl in Clear Lake, Iowa.

The crash killed Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, Jiles Perry Richardson (The Big Bopper), and the 21-year-old pilot, Roger Peterson, leaving Holly's pregnant bride, Maria Elena Holly, a widow (she miscarried soon after).

Buddy Holly, Richie Valens & The Big Bopper all died in a plane crash on Feb. 3, 1959, shortly after take-off from Clear Lake, Iowa.

Don McLean's song, American Pie featured the lyrics "the day the music died" I believe Waylon Jennings had given up his seat on the plane to The Big Bopper. Jennings was in Holly's band at the time.

Buddy Holly, Richey Valens, and Jiles Perry (J.P.) Richardson, Jr. (The Big Bopper) all died in the same plain crash. I would also like to add that the Don McLean song references "The day the Music Died."
