I am a mad music bio buff. I've just put Johnny Cash's new bio on order, and started thinking which is the best bio I have read.
I'd say it would have to be either "Jim Morrison: Life, Death and Legend" or "Janis Joplin: Buried Alive". Both brilliant. Both so real. Both disturbing!

The Long Hard Road Out of Hell by Marilyn Manson. It's real, it's disturbing, and very interesting. Manson has a great command of the English language (Mensa member) and unlike most music bios it's written very well.

"Hank Williams- The Biography", Colin Escott.
I'm not what you'd call a big fan of country music, but this book was fascinating. My opinion of Hank Williams as a singer of corny 'hillbilly' songs changed forever after reading this book.
