In the supermarket where i work, we are only allowed to sell 2 packets of paracetomal at any one time. Does anyone know if this is the law or just a company policy?.

It is not "law", merely an instruction from the government to retailers. Infact retailers do not have to go along with it and in certain situations they can use their own discretion. If someone really wants to buy lots of these tablets there is nothing stopping them from buying two packets from every shop in the town, so it does seem a pointless thing really. I suppose that if someone has to go to several shops to buy enough tablets to O/D on, it could be a deterrent, they would be exhausted by the time they had purchased enough !

It is against the law to sell morethan 32 paracetamol without a pharmacists advice. In a supermarket or general shop its not allowed to sell more than 16 at a time although most do not observe this.

It is not a company policy. It was a measure put in place by the government to prevent people from overdosing on painkillers or committing suicide that way.
Personally I think that folks intent on killing themselves are smart enough to stock up in advance, but it is supposed to make people think twice before they do it.
