What do you wish you would have brought to make your life easier. I'm not talking about the big things like a computer or car but the little things that you dont usually think about. Is it necessary to bring utensils and dishes when there is a cafeteria? What about the mattress? Do they give you one? Or is it best to buy your own new one? Any other suggestions you can give me? Thanks!

Well, the first thing to do is to check the school's site and see what they provide in each dorm room. With mine, I got a closet, a bed with a mattress, a desk, and a lamp. I didn't use their lamp though, I brought my own. Oh, they provided a chair for the desk too, but I used my own. Also, there was a mini-fridge and a microwave for you and your roommate to share. Often, the school's website will have a list of suggested things for you to bring, too.

Good things to bring:
* Microwave safe bowl
* Can opener
* Microwave safe plate or paper plates
* At least one spoon, knife, and fork
* Coffee/tea mug
* At least one glass/cup
* Paper towels and a small bottle of dish soap to wash your dishes
* Lamp if they don't provide one (or the one they have might be crappy)
* Enough paper/pens/notebooks, etc.
* Calculator, ruler, etc.
* Pictures and posters to decorate the wall
* Some of either that sticky tack stuff, or else just regular scotch tape, check with the school what they want you to use
* Plastic storage box(es) to stick under the bed to keep stuff in
* Foam mattress pad thing to make your mattress nice and soft
* Long twin size sheets for your mattress (probably, check with the school)
* Plenty of blankets
* Your pillow/pillows
* Maybe one of those wedge things for sitting up in bed
* All your clothes and grooming supplies

If you're using a communal shower:
* flip flops (ewww athlete's foot!)
* a plastic basket with handles with holes in the bottom to let water drain out to hold all the stuff you'll need to take to the shower
* A ROBE!!! What I always did was undress most of the way, slip my robe on, and then undress the rest of the way in my room, even when my roommate was there. Then, I'd go to the showers, and step into the shower with my robe on, take it off, and then hang it on the hook outside, and then do the reverse when leaving. I had this awesome long robe that made me feel very covered when I was in the hallway, which was great, because it was a co-ed floor. Make sure you either keep your keys with you when you go take a shower or else make sure your roommate knows not to leave and lock the door and lock you out...yes, it happened to me once.

Good luck! I hope you have a great college experience!

Don't forget to bring a fan! Most dorms aren't air conditioned. Slippers and shower slippers - you'll be sharing a bathroom with a lot of other girls. And probably some boys, no matter where you go.

Dorm room usually supply a bed frame, mattress, desk, chair, bookshelf, and dresser per roommate. You'll need pillows, sheets, comforter, probably a lamp because dorm lighting is pretty harsh, maybe more - but you might want to wait until you get there before bringing extra furniture or appliances - some dorm rooms are too small, some dorms charge you extra if you want to plug in a fridge, and many dorms have microwaves and small kitchens you can use.

Have fun! You can always head to the local wal-mart/target with everyone else when you're moving in.

a dorm will not have a kitchen, but you may find that a small microwave an a small refrigerator will be necessary items. Have a lock installed on the fridge in case you need to secure your stuff......Keep a supply of throw-away dishes/utensils....as cleaning of dishes will not be easy.

A dorm is usually a 100-200 Sq foot room which is about the size of a large bedroom which you will need to share with another. The setup will be similar to a hotel....limited amenities.

I would find out from the school what is supplied in your dorm room. Travel light because you may want to or need to change rooms if you do not get along with your roommate.....Travel light because when you go back home, the less you need to move, the better. you may want to bring your creature comforts, like your own bed stuff and pillows, but not much else.

it depends if you are staying in the dorm. If you are, they will give you mattress, desks, chairs, book case...etc.
But you should buy mattress covers, blankets, pillows...etc.
Also utensils help if you are cooking...not eating at the cafetria.
Bring plenty of snacks and other food since dorm cafeteria has hrs for meals.
I brought lots of pics, books (for fun), dvd movies...
Lots of PJs since you will want to be comfortable while you are studying and just hanging around in the dorm.
have fun
