me if it hurt you when you had it done? They told me I have 2 cysts on one ovary and 1 on another and that my uterus was pushed against my ovary. I have to have surgery now.

This was an internal probe.

Ultrasound exams don't ordinarily hurt, but in some cases the pressure of the probe can aggivate the things which do. In your case, I imagine the position of the uterus and the cysts was what caused the exam to be so miserable. You already aren't exactly comfortable, and having the probe pressed against everything certainly didn't help matters. People with gallbladder problems often have the same complaint, and for much the same reasons. You are just messing in an area that is already sensitive. You should feel much better after your surgery. Not necessarily the first few days, postoperatively, but steadily better after that. Ultrasounds done in the future, providing you don't have an enlarged and sensitive cyst, should not be so painful.

The worst part for me about having an ultrasound was the full bladder. However, it did not hurt. I'm sure it was because of the medical problems you have.
BTW, I had a cyst on one of my ovaries. It burst while I was driving. I had to pull over to the side of the road. Then I doubled over in pain. I can't even begin to imagine what it would be like to have two cysts. I hope your surgery goes well.

Did they use the internal probe, or the external one? I had to have an ultrasound on my ovaries once because of PCOS, and my bladder was not full enough for her to get a good look externally, so she pulled out the internal probe, rolled a condom on and asked me to insert it. I almost had a fit, and yes it hurt. I was fairly young at the time (I want to say 14/15), and my mom was there with me. She had to explain to the lady after I went into the bathroom when it was over, that I was a virgin and did not use tampons at that point. The lady apologized profusely when I came back in the room.

I just had a internal ultrasound to check for cysts on my ovaries, didn't hurt so much during the exam, more pressure than pain, but afterward I had to lay down I hurt so much. I guess it just depends from person to person. If you are overly concerned give a call to your doctors office and ask, thats what they are there for. Feel better!

The ultrasound shouldn't have hurt. It may have been a little uncomfortable, but I have never experienced pain from it. I'm sorry it was so painful for you :(

If that exam hurt, then file written complain wiht the lab or clinic where it was done. Your tech was a masochist. These exams are not supposed to hurt. Pressure, yes, but not pain.
