I just got offered a job as a pharmacy technician. But apparently you just can't just show up and start working. First i have to get registered which is about 60 bucks and send a picture of me and turn in the application to the pharmacy registration place wherever it is. Then they said i have to take a test to be certified. Do i really need to take the test to hand people their prescriptions? Or can i just pay the 60 bucks registration? I heard you don't need to take the test to work as a pharmacy technician, all you need to do is be registered. Anybody know??

it is becoming more and more common for techs to be registered as they are being relied on more for some of the "count and pour" duties that the pharmacists used to do.
you will have to go thru the test and get certified.it's not just handing out prescriptions anymore.
go ahead and do it.you will be able to apply for other jobs and advance yourself.i assume you are specifically asking about a retail pharmacy.hospital techs are a very important link in the chain of health care.prety good pay too for the little sacrifice.
of course, what is needed depends on the laws of your state.

In most states, certification is optional. Texas requires certification, and some states require certification to become a full-fledged pharm tech. To be certified, you have to pass an exam. I recommend that a pharm tech works for 6 months and then take the exam. By then, you should know most of the tested material. However, my state does not require certification.
Most employers will pay you more if you are certified.
