Nice nick, of course the money we are wasting on a lost cause would be better spent on many things that would benefit the country more. Health Care, securing our borders, alternative energy. 100 Billion or more next year goes to Iraq, and we are cutting programs that help our own people to fund it. It is the shame of America when people in other lands get more of our resources then people in our own country that need it.

YES! In fact, they would be better spent on almost anything.
Actually flushing money down the toilet would be LESS wasteful than spending it on the Middle East.

500 billion would buy a lot of research for alternative energy sources plus there would probably be some left over towards improving health care for the 47 million citizens without insurance.

It certainly would be. But the current administration has ties with big oil, so of course they have no interest in that. I'm shocked that since the OPEC oil embargo of the 70's that there hasn't been more of an attempt to develop alternate energy. But we elect the politicians, and as long as the lobbyist of big oil donate to their campaigns. We shouldn't be too surprised. Cut off lobbyist of big oil from donating to politicians, you might see some progress with alternative fuel development.

We are not dumping billions in the Middle East, we are giving it all to BushOilCo and friends who take $8 billion per week out of the US Treasury for the big Party. They think this is great as all Bush's friends in the warmaking and oil business are becoming rich beyond their wildest dreams. Their motto is "If God did not want them sheared, He would not have made them sheep." These men mean us harm, and have no conscience about generations of Americans to come owing their souls to countries like China who own all Bush's Debt.

Consider, this thing is going to cost upwards of 2 trillion after all the cost come home.
I think we could have made major inroads into the energy problem. Who knows on the side maybe found cures for many cancers, built a city on the moon, on and on.

That could be argued. Keep in mind that those billions are not going down the toilet, they are circulating in a dynamic fashion.
