Every business I've worked in - car dealer, cell phone store, food service - people come in right before we close and make the employees stay late. It seems like no matter which job I have - my life revolves around customers.

I understand what you are saying but in any service position it has to be expected if you want the customer to come back and pay money that pays your wage, if the doors don't close until 5.30pm as stated on opening/closing times you are obliged to give that customer the service they seek. It also helps to remember that many of the people coming in at that time have either just finished work themselves and this is the only time they can get in and on the other side of it are people that don't work (stay at home parents, students etc) and don't realise what happens after the doors close. If you don't want to work in that way you are going to have to look for a different field of employment but there are not many that don't deal with the public.

many businesses won't lock the doors before the official closing time. this allows a late comer a way to get service regardless of the closing time. some businesses allow for this, others don't. it is especially true for retail business that have only a few products.

Its all about customer service. It's a full circle. I am sure you have gone into a business right before closing time, we all have. Its no big deal.
