Unfortunately it is legal, however many states require employer have you sign something first telling you that the results of a credit app can affect employement offered or at least for you to give permission to run the credit check first. So, find out if you signed anything like that first and ask for a copy of it. Then check with your unemployment office to see if there might be some recourse for you there since they actually had you start working before the report was completed. It would be a kick in the pants to them to have to pay unemployment because of it. haha.

Unfortunately, this is legal. Most jobs will check your credit before they hire you. There are a few that will go ahead and hire you only to check your background or credit at a later date. Then they terminate you if they don't like what they see. Banks are notorious for this. Insurance companies and municipalities are known for this too.

yes it is. employers are allowed to used bad credit reports as a bases for not hiring you. they are looking at responsibility, and if you badly in debt, the can think that you can be bribed, or may steal. did you sign a FCRA release so they could check your credit?most likely you did, and it explained that your credit report may be used as a factor in the hiring process. its not fair, sometimes you fall on hard times, but employers can do that.

Yes it is. Work on the bad debt. (Take any job you can to get it paid off.)
Then, slowly start building up your credit again. The "turn around" will show employers that you can work hard.

Yes, that's why they do credit checks. If you can't handle your own money, you won't handle theirs very well either.
