I am writing a story about a girl who finds her true self by pen and paper. She writes and writes, and she even begins to sing her own songs that she has written. Until one day her dog dies. She wants to quit. EMAIL ME FOR MORE, BUT I NEED A NAME FOR THE GIRL!!!!!!!!

I thought about Kate, but do you think it would be good? Say a name that would sound good.

I'll give a suggestion about the book, and then about the overall theme.

It depends on more specific and detailed attributes of your character. From the information, Kate seems fine, but I really don't know enough to make a good judgement, more information would help considerbly.

As for the plot, a wrod fo caution, writers writing about their main character finding themself through writing often ends up cheesey. I understand that this is what you know, and I'm all for writing aobut what you know, but it may come off as slightly autobiographical and in poor taste.

Also, wnating to quit because her dog died seems kind of mundane. I'm not seeing too much of a deep message here, perhaps you should ponder some more things about what you are trying to say.

Kate is my name! Go with Kate! But beware that writing about writing often comes off very poorly. Think about what significance the dog has to this girl. He'll need to be one spectacular dog to make her want to quit writing.

Kate is too cute and too positive. Katherine would be better, as the heroine has a lot of depth. Probably there are already a lot of Katherines. How about Emily, Elizabeth, Rosalind or Imogene (comes from the word for imagine in Latin)?

How about Sara...it has a certain melancholy feel to it...Why does the dog have to die - and if it does, can't she write about how happy the dog made her feel....it seems as though there is a lot of sadness that you're feeling...just by your avatars face you seem to be going through a painful period that i hope ends real soon. Life is too short to be so inhappy(sometimes i wish i listened to my own words)

Go with Kate. Names really aren't important for main characters, you have the entire story to tell the audience who she is. Names are more importent for minor charactors because usally the only thing you have to tell the audience about them is the name.

Any strong classic name. Katherine, Elizabeth, Caroline, Josephine, Samantha etc. I think a name like Katherine is perfect. Everyone calls her Kate but she wishes she was more exotic like Katerina.

Avoid names like Zoe, Chole, etc that are too cool and artsy.

Maggie.
It sounds like a sissy name at times, but take a minute and think about it.
What do you think?
