That is such a broad question that you could write an entire encyclopedia about it. You're going to have to narrow it down before you get anything that looks like a coherent answer.

Example: In ancient times Israel was a single nation. Following a period of internal upheaval, the 10 northern tribes split off and called themselves Israel with the two large tribes in the south calling themselves Judah. (Yes, the spin-off took the original name; I don't get it either.) Each set up its own government, and according to some theories they developed different Bibles which were later reunited as one text. These two nations used to be 'together' in a sense, and today - symbolically at least - are reunited in modern Israel.

More recently, the nations of East Germany and West Germany were formed from the portions of Germany occupied by the Soviet Union and Allies, respectively, following WWII. These were separate nations for all intents and purposes for 44 years, though they were 'together' as one nation before 1945 and after 1989.

Since the fall of the Soviet Union, both Yugoslavia and Czechoslovakia reverted to separate republics reflecting cultural groupings; these component nations used to be 'together' although by force and not by choice.

First, why do you assume all Pagans are Democrats? Second, why do you assume all Pagans support gay marriage? You seem to be forgetting here that "Pagan" is a category that many, many different religions fall under, and they can have very different beliefs. You shouldn't stereotype Pagans and try to pigeonhole such a diverse group of people into having all the same political ideologies. Third, when gay marriage is put to vote in a state, how are Christians wrong by casting their vote? Isn't that the democratic process in action? The "Federal government" is not so much in their grip; but considering more than 70% of the country considers itself Christian, obviously the majority will rule on many votes. And newsflash, Christians aren't the only people who vote against same-sex marriage. There are people of other religions who do as well, inclucing some Pagans (I'm not one of them, but they are out there).

If you really need an answer you should rephrase it so we can understand it. Do you mean the Communist Bloc of Russia and most of Eastern Europe. You kids really should learn how to express yourself properly.
PS They were together not through choice.
