Dr . said to only feed my 6 week old baby 4oz every 4 hrs instead of the 7 to 8 oz I have been feeding him for the past 2 weeks. Dr. said the reason he is fussy is because he has heart burn. He is only screaming at night. Threw the day he is just fine with his food. he was born 9 lbs and is now 13lbs.. Should I cut back that much? He is having a fit...

For heartburn you should feed the baby less each feeding but feed them more frequently. The idea is to not overfeed as this increases the chance of having heartburn. It also helps for the baby to be upright for at least a half hour after each feeding to allow for the food to digest. My son also had heartburn and it was quite a trying time. I felt so bad for him and the only way I could help him was by following the advice written above. It can be a trying time for you, just having patience it won't last forever. Good luck!

My baby has acid reflux, too - cutting down on the amount you feed him is one of the easiest ways to help. During the day, the baby is upright more (you are holding him) so it is not as bad.

Follow the doctors advice, and only give your baby 4 ounces at a time. If he is hungry, feed him as often as every 2 hours, but not more than that. His stomach has probably stretched beyond normal capacity, so it may take a week for him to adjust back down to a normal amount of food. To give you a frame of reference, my baby is now 5 months old and she drinks 6-8 ounces at a feeding, every 2-3 hours. A nutritional handout that my doctor gave me says that an infant 0-4 months should be getting 17-32 ounces a day, in 5-10 feedings (less ounces and more feedings the younger they are).

Some babies will also over-feed, especially bottle babies. They will fill up their tummies to the top, and then fill up part of their esophagus. Limiting the amount of formula will help with this problem also. This is what my baby did when she was younger.

I know that taking the bottle away and hearing your baby cry is incredibly hard, but as a mom you have to do what is best for your baby's health. Good luck!

My 6 year old son was the same way!!! He ate and ate like 7-8 oz (sometimes more) by the time he was 4 weeks like every 3-4 hours. I had an older child so it worried me but when we went to see his Doctor at 8 weeks he told me that it wasn't a big deal he was just a big baby so he ate more. He did, which most doctors don't do anymore, tell me I could start feeding him a little rice cereal once a day. I did and it helped some. My son was huge by the time he was 6 months but now he is a very hansome and slim 6 year old boy.

I say if your baby is hungary feed him!! I did mine and he is perfectly fine.

First of all, doctors study ABSOLUTELY NO LACTATION CLASSES IN COLLEGE!!! People don't realize that doctors and nurses do not study baby feeding in college. (I took the RN course). Lactation Consultants are the only ones with the knowledge in baby feeding. Some babies do get GERD, the reflux disease. Babies know when they are full or not. You can have 2 bottles with 4 oz in each bottle. If he eats the first bottle and is still hungry, then give him the other one. If he's screaming at night, he's probably lonely. Most countries in the world sleep or cuddle with the baby. My son was 7 lb. 13 oz at birth and weighed 14 lbs. at 7 wks. Babies usually need to eat throughout the night. Dr. Sears has some wonderful books about babies. Good luck!

At that age, you can't really overfeed a baby. If he takes the larger amount stick with it. The older he gets the more he will cut back. You can try to burp him after every 2 ounces or so to help with the gas, keep him upright for 10-20 minutes following a feed. Have you tried Ovol gas drops or gripe water? Bicycling there legs works for gas as well. Good luck!

Ive heard acid reflux at that age, but never heartburn. Also when you say food - do you mean formula. If you're giving him actual food, like rice cereal, that could be the problem. A babies tummy at 6 weeks old is not ready for that. Also a lot of babies scream only at night, just a fussier time of the day. With our first, every night we had to bounce him (carefully - no shaken baby) on the ball forever to calm him (plus it helped me with the baby weight :)

If you are feeding with formula the can tells you how much they should have, why does the Dr think he has heart burn? Sounds a bit weird.

My son change into formulation fed and not in any respect had any discomfort that change into out of the classic even as teething. He began teething even as he change into about 3 months and it type of sounds like he's not in any respect stopped! he's 365 days now and has 14 teeth, occurring numbers 15 and 16. truly, i did not understand he change into teething even as he change into getting his first 2 bottom teeth. i idea I merely had a drooler because he did not act like he change into in discomfort or something. He merely drooled lots. both nights in the previous the teeth popped by weren't any relaxing even with the actuality that. He change into 4.5 months and change into waking up each and every 2 hours back. except that, i have not really lost any sleep over teething.
