I'll offer this since just today I received a vehicle heater that runs on 12 volt. It's pretty ineffective, and my temps here in FL are in the 50's currently.

Certainly E BAY and a general WWW search will offer many sites, and types. The best thing you can do is have the battery actually recharging as you use a heater. Certainly that will take fuel of some sort/ a power source. BUT that also allows a power inverter to convert the battery 12 volt to a 110 AC which then allows you to use a regular convection or fan forced heater.

Might it not be just as easy to buy an appropriate length extension cord, run it to a power source and use a store bought space heater?

I'm having the same problem, the heater in my car dosen't work very well and it's like -15 outside. I recently bought a 12v Heater/fan at a truckstop and was EXTREMELY disappointed. I've been looking everywhere for a solution and am finding there just isn't a heater that will run very effectivly on 12v. Plus, if you're just planning on a car battery they discharge pretty quickly when it's cold.

Most guys who ice fish will tell you that for a small shed a Propane heater will work better than anything else. Sure it's kinda a pain to get gas and keep filling it, but when you're sitting there warm you'll thank me.

A 12 volt battery will not run a 120v heater. Even if you hook up one of those small 12 volt defroster style heaters it doesn't produce enough heat to do anything really. And it would discharge the battery in a matter of hours.

Buy a 120v "space heater" or "milk house" heater. Leave it on the low setting and it will keep the room from freezing. Place it close to any pipes you are worried about freezing.
