Communism is an ideology that seeks to establish a classless, stateless social organization, based upon common ownership of the means of production. It can be classified as a branch of the broader socialist movement. Early forms of human social organization have been described as 'primitive communism' by Marxists. However, communism as a political goal is generally a conjectured form of future social organization. There is a considerable variety of views among self-identified communists, including Maoism, Trotskyism, council communism, Luxemburgism, anarchist communism, Christian communism, and various currents of left communism, which are generally the more widespread varieties. However, various offshoots of the Soviet (what critics call the 'Stalinist') and Maoist interpretations of Marxism-Leninism comprise a particular branch of communism that has the distinction of having been the primary driving force for communism in world politics during most of the 20th century.

Communists believe that all wealth should be evenly distributed among everyone. Former Soviet Union was Communist. Karl Marx wrote "Dax Kapital" and the "Communist Manifesto," and his philosophies were later adopted by V.I. Lenin and then Joseph Stalin in Russia--hence the Cold War (nuclear stailmate-war lasted for decades between the US and Russia). The Korean War (North and South Korea) was also fought over Communism, as well as the Vietnam War.

Finally, whereas prices in a free market system, fluctuate according to supply and demand, a Communist government cannot accurately determine the natural and most ideal prices of goods and services in a society. Thanks.
From an Economist's sandpoint (I have a BA in Economics), Communism is not the most productive form of market system; a free market system is the most productive, which is currently seen in the US. In a communist society, workers do not perform at their best because the do not have the incentive to do so---they can never realize more wealth or rewards for their hard work. The fact that people follow their own self interests (seeking profit and wealth) leads to the most productive society--Adam Smith touted this in his work, "Wealth of Nations"

Communism was a social movement in many first-world countries, including USA, UK, Australia. But it really took hold in some of the old peasant-based economies. Karl Marx and Frederik Engels are the most famous of the communist thinkers/writers. The idea of the impoverished workers rising up and overthrowing the very rich landowners and fgod-kings"actory bosses appealed to overworked, underfed people. The idea of redistributing the wealth and sharing everything fairly inspired "the masses" to revolution. North Korea and Cuba are still communist but even Russia and China, the big communist states, eventually admitted the capitalist system (eg America, Europe) ends up making everyone richer. It served a purpose at the time, maybe - otherwise there'd be all these "tsars" and "god-kings" still ruling in half the world.

Communism is the classic case of "Looks great on paper". But it did lead to oppresive military dictatorships everywhere it took hold.

WOW. That's all I have to say. WOW. But wait, I have more to say.

Communists support COMMUNISM. Now from the late 40's less than two decades ago the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA was involved in a little bit of a, "misunderstanding", with the COMMUNIST superpower, the SOVIET UNION. This led to a small conflict soem liek to call the COLD WAR, perhaps you have heard of it.

Communism is all about an economy controlled by the government, high taxes, free services and equality. It is the opposite of Capitalism.

DAMN THOSE CAPITALISTS! tHEY HAVE BRAINWASHED YOU INTO NOT KNOWING ANYTHING ABOUT THE BEAUTY OF COMMUNISM AT ALL! WE MUST LIBERATE THIS NEW GENERATION OF YOUTH TO STAND UP AND CREATE THE NEXT COMMUNIST REVOLUTION!

How you write communist makes a difference in the answer. A "communist" is different than a "Communist".

Some of the stuff you read just above, and below is scarey. Hard to believe in these times some can be so ignorant. I hope they are just kidding us.

People who believe that a community consists of equal people who are all entitled to an equal share of its resources and products reagrdless of their talents and background.

The system was devised by a guy called Karl Marx.

It doesn't work on a large scale basically because people lose their motivation to work as they will get the same anyway. You see without the motivation to have more than our peers our greed is not satisfied. This is why capitalism is so succesful if you work hard enough and are succesful you get to have a BMW instead of the Ford your next dorr neighbour has and you can gloat as he stares in envy at you every day. Isn't that worth giving the majority of your life working to make someone else rich!!

The Communism dosn´t bad, jus that the people never have understand it.
