desparate need of help!?

Ok, so there are things wrong with my computer, im not sure if its a virus etc.... i cannot detect anything wrong with scans. But i did a free registry scan to see what was wrong and it came up with 954 things wrong with the registry....and my comp has been having trouble with other things. Quiet frankly, im tired of trying to fix it because as much as im on the computer, i do not have alot of knowledge when it comes time to technical stuff. So i was wondering if i strip my hard drive (i have something called killdisk- hard drive destroyer) and then reinstall everything....would that fix most the problems? ugh im so frustrated lol...my comp is an emachines and its only 2 years old.

i do not want to spend money for a professional. i have run virus and spyware scan. i just need to know if i strip my hard drive and reinstall everything, will it take care of most the problems?

What registry scan did you use? If its Ccleaner its not a problem, it will back up the registry and fix the problems. But you need to be wary of what software you download and use. Some of it is fake and installs spyware.

1) Start by checking you have the correct security software from safe sites;
You need to install one firewall.
The Windows firewall doesn't stop malware on your pc from dialling out.

You need to install one anti virus;

http://www.safer-networking.org - Spybot Search and Destroy anti spyware. Use the Teatimer settings to protect Internet Explorer, and the Immuniser to stop malware getting on your pc.
Spywareblaster works with Internet Explorer and Firefox. It won't uninstall spyware that is already on your pc, but it will prevent hijacks and other malicious changes to your browser.

(Remember to update and run all of you anti malware programs at least once a week. )

2) Next, boot in Safe Mode and run your anti virus and anti spyware.
To get into Safe Mode repeatedly press the F8 key after the bios screen loads but before Windows loads. You'll know if you made it because the screen will be at 800 x 600 and your pc will be slow.

3) Next, restart normally and run Ccleaner. Use the Issues tool and let it back up the registry when it prompts you. It will make a notepad file. You can reinstate the registry by double clicking on the file, so its reversible, but I've never had any problems with it.

4) Finally defragment the hard drive from Start - programs - accessories - system tools - disc defragmenter. Leave the machine while it runs, don't try to use it.

If the virus and spyware scans in Safe Mode don't turn up anything, you don't have a virus problem on your pc.
So you can try asking for help again but be more specific about what the problems are.

Leave the registry problems alone, deleteing these may cause more problems. Your not very specific on what your computers doing. Make sure you run a full virus AND spyware scan. You can download ad-aware to scan for spyware. Also i suggest getting a friend who's good with computers have a look.

Alright, most freescans are free scams trying to get you to buy their inferior product, when you used their scan you probibally downloaded spyware, do a system restore to before you did the scan, and after run your defragger, do a scan disk, rboot into safe mode and then do a virus scan, should fix everything!

For you since you are not a technical person it would be easier for you to try an fix the system..installing a new system invovles many technicalities.for example(sp2,security,windows update,java,flashplayer,reinstalling missing drivers,ect).for you it will be a disater.a new system can take 3or4 hours depending on the speed of your computer,but for someone without the experience it may take you month(S)for example if you have the xp cd you dont need(Kill DISC)the xp cd does all of that for you.this is one of the easy things to know about installing a new system.sorry about the lecture,but i was just keeping it real wih you.Good Luck!!

Dont do that !! reboot your pc whilst keeping the f10 key pressed rapidly. Back up any important work or anything you want to keep onto disc as this is a factory re-set command. It is pretty self explanatory , but dont do it all the time.

well....first of all you did a registry scan which in my personall opinion it just ruins your comp. in your case id just get a professional to reinstall the operating system if your that technically challenged becasue you probly wouldnt be able to do it by yourself
