Pocos-
You know when people say "A part of me thinks this way, and then again another side of me.."
Youre conscience is what makes you self aware right? So when you talk to yourself and try to figure things out doesnt that mean you are asking your conscience what youre beliefs are? Kinda like having an argument or discussion with yourself. I hope that answers youre question of my question lol. If not please tell me and ill try again. :)

well, heres another go:
When you talk to yourself you are looking deep into your own psyche. If you do that then you are trying to find who you are. Our beliefs define who we are do they not? To great extent? Does'nt logic and emotional response play a role in the development of beliefs? I think that each level of perception shapes our beliefs. Don't you? So to tie this back to my original idea, on each level that we percieve things, when we process information, and talk to ourselves, we are shaping our beliefs based on how we think and feel about things morally and personally.

No I don't agree. There is nothing wrong with talking to yourself. It's just a habit of gaining conscience and awareness towards yourself and your surrounding.

Not really. Sometimes talking to myself is a way of figuring things out. Sometimes it is a mnemonic tool. Sometimes it's just a way of keeping myself company in a lonely and/or scary situation. It rarely has anything to do with beliefs.

EDIT to respond to additional comments: I still don't understand how it has anything to do with your conscience and your beliefs. Can you give me an example, perhaps? I guess I really just don't understand what you're asking.

EDIT AGAIN: I still don't think you're quite on the right track with that one. When you talk to yourself, it rarely has to do with BELIEFS. It more often has to do with memory, logic, and or lonliness.

I kind of understand what you're saying: on one hand_____ , but on the other hand _____ . This question may or may not have any relation to a person's beliefs or belief systems. Sometimes these are "moral" questions, but I would say that this is very rarely the case. I guess I just don't think that talking to oneself has anything to do with beliefs or questioning said beliefs.

I don't know what the hell your talking about but I have read that people that talk to themselves tend to be smarter. I guess thats true because some of my ex girlfriends were really smart and always told me " I guess I was just talking to myself" So my question is did I help them get smarter by pissing them off? Wait now your question has got me talking to myself. I gotta change catagories.

According to a text book I had in college, talking to yourself is practicing for an inner voice that tells you what to do; not so much a concience as practicing reminding yourself what to do in a situation; not as much morally, as procedurally.

Hey ,nothing wrong with talking to yourself, its when ya start answering that people start to wonder about ya. And if someone catches ya talking to yourself just say "I like to keep myself company"

Yes, as long as their isn't another voice, that is inside your head responding to your questions, you are totally normal. People often talk to themselves when they are totally focused and sincere and want to do something a precise way.

No! I know what my beliefs are, but I talk to myself in attempting to change my mentation and behaviour.

Nope. I talk to myself because it helps my thought process to progress clearer.

Uh, not exactly...I talk to myself out loud..Because..it helps me organize other thoughts that are getting in my way. It seems to me that if i talk out loud to myself, it mutes the not-so-important-other-thoughts...But I don't believe that it is what you say.
