If I were you, I would just go to the music store and buy some manuscript paper. You can get an entire spiral bound book of manuscript paper for under $20. Personally, I can write a lot faster by hand than I can on any computer programs I have tried. You can also get some software (you'll need a digital piano) that allows you to hook your piano up to your computer, and the program will record what you are playing and convert it (instantly) to sheet music. That's a lot easier than even writing music by hand, but the software costs avg. $400. You probably know that, though. I assume that's why you're asking about free programs. I stand by my original statement: Write it out by hand. It's more rewarding that way anyhow.

Yes it is possible. First find the sound you want. If the sound is not in the .wav format you will have to convert it. (there are loads of free audio converters at the big download sites if you don't have one) Next make sure you have named your .wav file something you will recognize. Drop the completed file into C:\Windows\Media folder. With this done, open the Control Panel. Open Sounds and Audio Devices. Click the Sounds tab. Scroll down to where you see a speaker icon next to Start Windows. Click to highlight it. Then click the browse button. In the dialog box that opens, select your sound file by name and click ok. Then click ok on the sounds and audio devices box. Reboot and when windows starts you will hear your custom sound. Hope this helps. Good luck.
