Washington spoke out against political parties and the forming of alliances with foreign powers as well as involvement in European wars in his Farewell Address.

John Adams was a polarizing force of the earliest political partisanship, and sought European alliances which was effectively meddling in European power struggles.

In his defense, political partisanship and healthy debate between political parties has served us better than a single party would. As we have seen lately, it only takes about 15 years for a new majority to become as hopelessly corrupt as the old majority. So it is nice to have alternatives.
