I just read a story on Yahoo news about Robert Mugabe threatening the remaining white farmers that he is going to "unleash" the police on them if they don't abandon their farms. Here you have a country with the highest inflation in the world(over a 1000%). Millions of people starving and he's threatening to destroy the few remaining people who are trying to help him. He has stolen thousands of white owned farms, so that he can give them back to blacks. Nevermind the fact that most all of the people he's giving farms to do not know the first thing about farming. What a complete moron, how do people like this get voted into power?? How do they stay?? Are Zimbabwe's people really that dumb??

People like Robert Mugabe usually get into power by assassinating or overthrowing the present government with military power.
You will see this a lot throughout Africa. People are unhappy with the president so they form 'liberating' armies that are usually funded by other countries (in Roberts case China) and they overthrow the government and usually ended up being just as bad or if not worse then the government they just took over and then it just rinses and repeats.
In other cases these 'liberating' armies will go to war with the government and force the government to give them seats in the parliament as a trade off for peace and slowly work themselves up from there with vote rigging and intimidation.

The question is, are the white farmers really so dumb to stay there? Last I heard, he was begging them to come back because the blacks ran the farms into the ground. This was after he had run the white farmers off and/or killed them the first time. Zimbabwe is getting what it deserves.
How do such people stay in power, you ask? Because Africans teh continent over seem to have a very high tolerance level for corruption. Or they simply don't care.

If you think Robert Mugabe is a problem, wait until Hugo Chavez gets wound up in Venezuela. He has already started the taking of foreign farms. His inflation is almost as bad as Zimbabwe's.
Don't you find it interesting that Liberals seem to lose their voice when it comes to horrible left wing dictators? And man, we have a nize crop of new ones: Chavez, Morales, and the other one in Ecuador and that doesn't even count the guy in Brazil. He doesn't seem to be quite so rabid, but still a communist.

Zimbabwe's people didn't vote him into power. He took it over by military force....hence how African politics are. I read that article too. It just ticks me off how stupid we Americans are for dumping more money into starving nations like this only to have our dollars intercepted and used to decorate palace walls of officals.
