Breath in through your mouth only for 4 seconds, out with your nose for 8-12. Thats just to get rid of the nerves and tension.

I've broken it down into a timeline for you...

A FEW DAYS BEFORE THE AUDITION: Go over your material whenever you get the chance. During commercials, in the shower, while walking your dog. Get yourself excited in a good way, pumped for this new experience but not nervous or scared. Think positive.

THE DAY BEFORE THE AUDITION: Present your material to a trusted friend or family member. Ask them what their immediate thoughts were, for advice, what they liked or disliked. Consider any last minute touch ups to your audition material. Keep calm, don't think about it constantly. Put your mind on other matters if you're terribly anxious.

THE DAY OF THE AUDITION: Get tons of sleep, eat a great breakfast, and wear your favorite/most comfortable outfit. Generally get yourself feeling good about you and your life. Don't obsess over your lines or getting everything perfect.

RIGHT BEFORE THE AUDITION: Take deep, calming breaths while waiting your turn. Don't go over your material, it'll just stress you out. Think about your smile, your posture, your eyes, how you'll act during the audition, etc.

DURING THE AUDITION: Relax and have fun with it!

AFTER: Go do something fun...you deserve it. Don't wait around to hear if you made it or not. Don't obsess over what you did right/wrong. Just feel proud that you got through it and excited that you might make it in. Hang with friends, eat some ice cream, listen to music, whatever. Just have some fun with the whole experience.

Best of luck!!!

Practice! Being nervous is normal so at least with all the practice you will know that this is the best you can do.

In order to try to make you less nervous...try to NOT focus on the people watching you. Focus on how it'll feel once you are done and sing like no one is watching you. Pretend you are in the shower, sing your heart out!

You'll be fine. Life's full of auditions/interviews and this is just a practice round. Everything will always work out the way it was supposed to. So no worries and go in there and break a leg!

ok I also just auditions for my school play and here are some tips. if there are people don't look at them. You can close ur eyes if ur aloud or you can do what i usually do. I look a the back of the wall and picture and empty room. I sometimes get nervous too but i just take deep breaths and do my best and hopefully they will see that.

When singing music that I have memorized I focus most of my attention on the pitch and tone of my voice. I also try to be aware of any words that might require special shaping of my mouth to get the best sound.

If sight reading is required I really concentrate on the music notation.

I know this all sounds completely rudimentary, but for me when I really focus and concentrate on these things I find there is no room in my mind for any nervousness to take shape.

Make sure you breath using your diaphragm, both while singing and before to keep you from becoming nervous. The extra oxygen will bring you clarity, calm your nerves, and keep your voice steady.
Another trick is to eat a banana a while before. For some reason, the potassium helps you to stay calm.

Relax... high school choirs seldom deny someone with even as minimal as an average voice a spot. Just sing something you're comfortable with, and you'll do fine.

Just tell yourself you are going to enjoy it and have fun. Laugh at yourself a little, joke around...it will loosen you up. Of course you should concentrate and be prepared, but do have fun with it.
