The book "what to expect when you're expecting" says not to lay on your back after the 4th month. it's because the entire weight of the uterus is resting on your back, intestines, and 2 major blood vessels. this can make backaches and hemorrhoids worse, slow digestion, interfere with breathing and circulation, and possibly cause hypo-tension, or low blood pressure.

Some people sleep on their backs the whole pregnancy. Your body will tell you to roll over, your body will tell you that it is not comfortable....They usually say, in books, that you shouldn't in the 3rd trimester....during that you should sleep on your left side....good luck!
