Actually it is more complicated than that. A good deal of our tax dollars stay here to start new business, support elderly and disabled, rebuild streets and so on. You may not agree with all the places tax dollars go but it is a very good thing to pay them. BTW the $1000 dollar bolt was a titanium seal bolt for the space shuttle.

I dont mind paying taxes, but I dont think the tax system is fair because income tax rates need to be flat, so everybody pays regradless of income. Estonia had 15% flat tax and the tax revuevnes grew expontially because people became honest the system is easy to understand, and its doesnt take much time to figure how to meet the tax oligation. The problem with the American tax system it costs $2 dollars in rescouces to collect $8 in taxes, and as a result there lots of deadweight behind the IRS tax system in the United States. The Untied States is ranked in 62nd in the world in paying taxes because are tax system is so complex that accountants and lawyers are the ones know how to use it to there advantage. I figure a flat tax on all income above poverty level is the simplist way to go about it, and at 15% Untied States would will about 90% of the taxes before the change and at 20% rate we collect around 120%.

Paying taxes, as the other posters said, is the reason why we have a military, police forces, some education, some (miniscule) health care, and our infrastructure (roads, electrical grid, sewer systems, etc.)
Paying taxes in your country, state, or county is like paying the membership dues to join a swimming pool, or any other type of club. You can pay a little, and share a big expensive thing with other people, or have it all to yourself but pay for it all by yourself.
I wish that those who don't want to pay any taxes could do that, IF they could then be denied ANY service that's paid for by taxes. That would mean no clean city water for them, no police protection, etc.

I agree with taxes. the truth is that while thee is a lot of missalication of funds in our government there are also billion of dollars taking care our roads (in some places) and paying our teachers (not a lot ). the fact that they aren't getting where they should doesn't show that taxes don't work, they just show that our government needs more accountability. Also the reason those "fat cat" politicians win in office is because they are the only ones that can afford it. the jobs of a civil servant don't pay very well so only people with secondary incomes can do it.

There are a lot of things that our tax dollars goes besides all this you stated. I do not mind paying taxes. Show me a receipt for A Bolt, that cost $1000, and then I will believe everything else you say, until then, no proof, no believe.

No one likes paying taxes but without them we would have no public health, schools etc, yes the fat cat's are licking the cream off the milk but there is very little that can be done until it comes to voting time. That's when you can use your voice (vote). It seems that all western countries are starting to feel the pinch of the tax man. I am in Oz.

I don't like paying taxes but I realize that it is necessary as a major source of income for the government. How else would they get money to run police forces, pay for the military, have better roads and infrastructure?

I agree with paying taxes, but I feel they should not be on Income, except for Ted Kennedy. I think he should pay interest and penalties on all the money his bootlegger daddy left him. Then we should abolish the income tax and go with a national sales tax or a national lottery (A voluntary tax)

Since I use governmental services, it seems reasonable to me that I should pay taxes. Whether my taxes are used for good purposes or wisely in an entirely different and highly politicized matter.

Freedom is not free, paying your fair share of taxes is the right thing to do. It is patriotic in a sense to support the government and its endevors.
