Majority of people vote for the candidate nominated by a political party to which one admires. In such case, no one would prefer to look into the above qualities.

It is my suggestion that Parliament shall pass a bill that each candidate shall contest election only as independents. No one will be allowed to contest under the banner of any political party. Then the voters will vote for the right candidate.

All such elected independents shall be given the opportunity to choose the political party through secret ballot. The political party which has more such elected candidates will have to form the government. All others will be opposition party based on the party opted by them.

All the elected representatives will again become independents during next election.

There is an added advantage in this system. Presently, some MLAs switch over from one party to another party and they face embarrassing situations / criticisms from others. Such pathetic situation is avoided in this system.

you have to start on the local and state level. on the national level its more than rare for someone to get in who hasn't had any experience.

Vote in the people who you really think stand for the things you believe in.

This requires that people actually do some research on the candidates which many people are too lazy to do.

You really can't blame anyone but ourselves for years of laziness in re-electing the encumbent and perpetuating the business as usual that has led us down the path that we are at.

The irony of it all is people ignore local politics for the most part and whine about issues on the national level. but thats backwards. Its not practical to think we are going to change things at that level.
We have to grow a whole new batch of politicians and through attrition get rid of the good ole boys.
This means if they are actually good sure keep them in but other than that get rid of the encumbents.

Does not seem possible. To get the job, you need to be a great politican. That would seem to preclude being a good person.
