I don't think so, at that age the kids are still just developing their skills in that sport, they should be encouraged to do their best, but not pressured to win

For younger "athletes", winning should not be stressed as important, but should be favorably acknowledged when it does happen. The kids need to learn the basics of the game, whatever game it is, in order to succeed at it, and that should be the main objective. That includes basic skills, teamwork and communication, etc. However, the main reason children play sports is to be a winner of sorts, so when the team wins, they need positive reinforcement to feel like they've succeeded at something.

No not at all. Youth should be concentrated on having fun because that will lead them into getting greater self-confidence, and they will be happy to play, so their skills will improve. Winning should only be the main focus in high school leagues and older.

who knows, my brother played on a lot of teams that winning was the only focus. he wasn't very good, so he rarely played. but as he got better he played more, i think that the whole objective until high school should be to have fun. high school through the majors leagues, it doesn't really matter, winning should be the main objective then.
