Al Jolson to me was the first great singer to start the scene for others to follow. Of course i saw The Jazz Singer who didn,t.people like you i thought were a thing of the past. And what a past it was Don,t know your age but was curious reasons. This is one of the best questions i,ve answered..I,ve seen the movie The Al Jolson Story with Larry Parks not too long ago. Have you seen it? Also have a record alblumn with all his songs.

You have to be kidding. Jolson was incredibly offensive by today's standards. If someone wore a big nose and a yarmulke and went around talking in the most exaggerated Jewish accent possible, he'd be pilloried.
And Jolson was Jewish! God, what a tool...
