and it cannot be an autobiography, biography, or memoir
& it cannot be fiction

That is pretty restrictive.

Senator Barack Obama wrote a book called, The Audacity of Hope. It addresses more than just African American experiences and he's up for a few awards for it.

Frederick Douglas's work was autobiographical. Even Alex Haley and Alice Walker have material as Fiction or biographical works. Maybe some poetry would help?

Maya Angelou should be required reading, but it cannot be autobiography, biography or a memoir... and it cannot be fiction. I love her writing.
