Only fluids (gases and liquids ) can have convection, because the molecules are free to move. For example an open window allow outside air in (convection) but a closed one the heat loss to the outside is due to conduction. On a cold day the exterior walls and windows are cold, so the the hot air in a house is moved to the walls by convection where it loses heat by conduction. Drapes would block the movement of air to the cold windows.
Every object radiates heat but it is only a major source of heat exchange when the temperature difference is large or conduction and convection is small. (radiant heaters, sun). Black not white is the most effective for radiant heat transfer
