1) 5x + 2y = 11
x + y = 4
x = 4-y
5 (4-y) + 2y = 11
20 - 5y + 2y = 11
20 - 3y = 11
-3y = 11 - 20
-3y = -9
y = 3
x = 4 - y = 4 - 3 = 1
x is 1 and y is 3

2) 2p + 5q = 15
6p + 15q = -29
5q = 15 - 2p
15q = 45 - 6p
6p + 45 - 6p = -29
45 = -29
not possible

3) 3a + b = 4
6a + 2b = 8

6a + 2b = 8 is the same equation as 3a + b = 4. This isn't possible. You need to independent equations to find 2 unknowns.
