Depends what you want to start with, usually I say it is better to start with non-electric guitars as it provides a better foundation when learning with a guitar that does not enhance sound. Almost any cheap acoustic guitar is best to start as the nylon strings don't hurt as much as the classical guitars. If you insist of starting with an electric guitar, Fender makes good beginner guitars. Washburn is definitely not a beginner guitar.

I've seen some pretty solid looking guitars that were pretty inexpensive at the warehouse store COSTCO.

You might also want to check out a used music store. Since price is an issue going with name brands is somewhat out of the question.

Just start off with a basic six string acoustic guitar. From there you can start to play all different styles of playing from rhythm to lead (it won't be loud, but you can start to get a feel for it) to blues to classical.

Once you get a feel for what you want to do you can then start to save money for a more specific type of guitar that better suits the genre of music you're looking to get into.

musiciansfriend.com

has a deal for an electric guitar with tremolo arm, 14'' amp, gig bag, strap, chord chart, and cable for 89.95 with $10 shipping. I've got one, it works great, and if I break it I can send it back and they will send me a new one, but only for the first year. It's a behringer; so I'd recommend you try that one out.

I just wanted to try it out, so if I change my mind about wanting to play, i don't waste that much cash.

You don't have to drop huge bank if you're just beginning to learn. Wait for a couple of years to see if you really want to pursue it. Then you'll want to invest. Grab a First Act axe to start learning chords and scales. They're pretty reasonable.
