It looks to me that a celinoid should trigger that door to open. Any tech's out there?

you should be able to just twist it with your hand.

Generally the dispenser will not open until it reaches a certain point on the timer. Try manual turning the timer knob and see if it pops open. If it does it will not lock shut again until you advance the timer more. Usually Roper dishwashers have a plastic mechanical lever, connected to the timer, which opens the door. I'll bet you anything it's still in cycle. First, make sure that the Dishwasher finished washing and returned to off. If it didn't then just cycle the washer knob manually all the way to off. If it still dosen't pop then run the dishwasher again. They usually never break, so doing one of those things will help.

How old is it? It is probably Whirlpool built and would have a mechanical trip from the timer or if newer could have a bi metal trip system like kitchen aid If it is a bi-metal type the probable cause of no trip is a water valve. Model # would sure help.
